BRINK Media, KXCI Community Radio & WaveLab Recording Studio announce formation of the “Tucson Community Media Center”
With the intent to replace the existing, outdated public access television infrastructure, the newly awarded contract to create a new Tucson Community Media Center (TCMC) includes not only continuing community access to over-the-air television, but also an economic stimulus: local workforce development and the marketing of the City of Tucson itself.
The TCMC will continue to air content on Cox Channels 12 and 20, including the broadcast of the Mayor and City Council meetings, but with a “new media” streaming approach. Bringing the TCMC online will be a sophisticated web and mobile Internet site, to be developed by BRINK, with a focus on community outreach and sharing across social media.
Announcing the TCMC, one City Council Rep stated “Tucson is lucky to have such forward-thinking creatives in our midst, and we are proud to see what our city can do when the right opportunities present themselves.”
Members of the community will be encouraged to contribute to the production staff at TCMC, learning camera, sound, lighting, and editing skills. In addition, the inventory of equipment will be available for rental and training, allowing members access to the latest gear in producing their own video, podcast, or documentary works.
“We are dedicated to maintaining community involvement in local media, while bringing innovative ideas and modern production values to Tucson’s homegrown cable channels.” says Danny Vinik, President of BRINK. “The TCMC will provide more than content for public-access television, we will be a showcase for Tucson’s creative community, a place for locals to increase their job skills while contributing to our thriving city.”
The TCMC will be a video gathering place for the sharing of Tucson’s extraordinary stories, a training ground for new media artists, and an inspiration for our city and beyond. Stay tuned for more information about this exciting development!
