On May 7, 2016 our BRINK team partied at the third annual Funk Parade.
For the uninitiated, Funk Parade is a one-of-a-kind day fair, parade and music festival, celebrating Washington DC’s vibrant culture, the historic U Street neighborhood community, and the Spirit of Funk that brings us all together. At BRINK we’ve been involved since the very beginning, wrangling local business owners and managing relations with the local neighborhood council, serving on the Board of Advisers, and providing creative digital strategy, design and development support along the way.
We are also part of the day fair’s organized activities. In past years, we’ve organized a 15&U Neighborhood Block Party, designed dope posters, hosted a live podcast and even had Hank the Beer Tank and RelayFoods come by to assemble funky rootbeer floats for friends and guests.
For this year’s event, we wanted a project to help share the experience of Funk Parade beyond the day. Working in collaboration with The Duke & The Duck to capture 360° video from the event, we have produced a 360 VR Documentary Experience to be shared online and streamed on YouTube (if possible with the support of Accelerate with Google), which we intend to further develop into an interactive event microsite.

We’re planning to augment the video with additional content and publish the project on a microsite, including recap stories and photos from the event, highlights from the Black Broadway and DCPL Oral History Project, and an interactive tour of the Shaw / U Street neighborhood to showcase the art murals, live music, and civil rights history of the area.
