Home is where the heart is, if you have one. Comfort is good and often profitable. Studies have proven that artists make more money in real estate than with their art. That's not a generalization, it's fact. So is there art in fixing up a place to live? Should we even deign to mention the politics of gentrification? Why not dwell on/in it? We do and are. Now show us your mess.

LAST WEEKEND
LAST WEEKEND
I am involved with an organization by the name of Architects Without Borders….you get the idea. Last weekend we participated in a design build challenge with a very unique problem, come up with ideas to aid displaced communities…..more specifically, we were asked to suggest a solution to the problem of poo management within illegal outdoor urban camps. Design criteria was to come up with a solution that was very simple, with easily scavenged parts, easily replaceable (since camps are often raided, destroyed and dispersed), and hopefully helped the groups to be better neighbors to adjacent communities. The timing of this challenge coincides with the spring closure of Seattle’s indoor severe weather shelters, so, more folks would be migrating back into the urban wild spaces. Here is a link to a news story on the effort:
