IN SPITE OF HIMSELF
Now, unlike Woody Guthrie, I love anything that will keep a man down. We could use a little more humility on this planet if you ask me. I'm concerned with any man or woman who becomes convinced that he or she could run the country or, worse yet, dance with the fuckin' stars. I truly believe that the day of the rock'n'roll star has come and gone. I'm glad that I lived through it. Got to shake the King's hand. I'm forced to make an exception here. Chuck Prophet is a certifiable rock'n'roll star. I don't throw that term around loosely. Heaven forbid anyone call him that to his face. He needs no further encouragement. Ask Dan! The boy can rock and the boy can roll. I'm no authority on much but I do know this stuff. He writes good songs and he makes fine records but that's not what this is about. When he writes a song that's as good as what he's capable of and when he makes a record that comes close to his best live show you'll know it. Front page. It's coming. You can smell the smoke. He can beat up his goddamned father. His father! His fashion sense is so terrible that it is majestic. He plays a Fender Squire for God's sake. The Rock'n'Roll Hall Of Fame has always been a joke and a shame to me. What, no Benny Joy? Where's the Prince Lala wing? I do want them to keep the joint open long enough to get Chuck Prophet inducted. His occupation- he rocks the nation. You'll see.
